I would describe myself as an encouraging and empathetic therapist. I believe that after building a relationship based on trust and acceptance, I can help my clients accept their true self and live more authentically. I strive to encourage my clients by helping them learn skills in self-regulation and communication- skills that build the foundation for happy, healthy, children and adults. I am passionate about helping my clients and their families see the potential in themselves, and live a more fulfilled and authentic life.
Although I believe the most powerful intervention in therapy is the relationship between myself and my client, I often draw from other theoretical lenses to deepen our work together. I enjoy expressive arts interventions, sandtray, and other methods that allow my client to fully express themselves in the playroom. I also enjoy working with clients’ parents, helping them both connect with their child and find solutions to difficulties at home. While I believe parents know their own child best, I enjoy empowering them by teaching methods to support their child, allowing them to model these emotion regulation and communication skills at home. Through my work with both caregivers and clients, I hope to help each family become more connected and confident.
I have experience working in both nonprofit and hospital settings. As a graduate student, I gained clinical experience working with children who experienced traumatic events at a Children’s Advocacy Center. At both this site and during my time at the inpatient hospital, I learned how to work with those experiencing difficult times in their lives. At both settings, I used play-based interventions to allow my clients to express and process their emotions, and cope with concerns such as adjustment disorders, family difficulties, anxiety, depression, and symptoms resulting from trauma.
I am a Central Louisiana native, and earned a B.S. in Finance with a minor in Psychology from Louisiana State University in 2019, and an M.S. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2022. During my time at Southeastern, I presented at the state level on play therapy topics, and was awarded the Outstanding Professional Involvement Award by faculty.
Currently, I am a Provisionally Licensed Professional Counselor through the state of Louisiana. I joined Nourish Counseling Studio in June of 2022 and am looking forward to supporting local families with play therapy and counseling services.
