The world around us is always changing. As parents, it can be difficult to not only process your fears, worries, and anxieties about the uncertainty surrounding us lately. When parents are overwhelmed, kids often do not fully understand why, and it can increase their own dysregulation. It is so important to take time to care for yourself so that you can help your children cope with changes in school, society, and peer groups that have seemingly shifted overnight.
I encourage you to take even five minutes a few times per week to focus on deep breathing and mindfulness. Breathe through your stress, and recognize that the tension you feel can leave with each out breath. Then, re-engage with your child and answer their questions in an open, honest, age appropriate way.
Lastly, do not feel as if you need to get through this uncertain time alone. Nourish Counseling Studio is happy to offer telehealth services when the safety needs due to COVID-19 require support to be virtual.
